Regional Container Lines (RCL) has cancelled a scheduled China–Red Sea sailing due to the continued escalation of security threats in the Red Sea, declaring Force Majeure and withdrawing the planned voyage of MV TS Chennai 2604E.

The carrier said the decision was taken in response to exceptional circumstances beyond its reasonable control, prioritising the safety of its vessels, crew and cargo.

RCL further stated that all additional costs resulting from the disruption—including handling, storage, re-routing, transshipment, inland transportation, demurrage, detention, port charges and other related expenses—will be borne by cargo owners in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable bill of lading.

The cancellation highlights the ongoing challenges facing global shipping as security concerns continue to disrupt trade through the Red Sea, one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

RCL said it will closely monitor the evolving security situation and resume normal operations once conditions are considered safe and operationally feasible.
