SCALAR has achieved a major milestone in India’s multimodal logistics sector by successfully flagging off the first domestic container rake from its Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Baran (BGPS), Rajasthan, on July 9, 2026.

The inaugural train, comprising 90 twenty-foot domestic containers loaded with food grains, departed for Bengaluru, establishing a new multimodal logistics corridor linking one of Rajasthan’s key agricultural production hubs with South India.

The development marks the operational launch of containerized rail logistics from the terminal and is expected to improve the efficiency, speed and cost-effectiveness of cargo movement for agricultural and industrial commodities from the region.

Spread across more than 50 acres, the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Baran features two full rake-length railway tracks, over 300,000 square feet of covered warehousing, 50,000 metric tonnes of modern silo capacity, and integrated cargo handling infrastructure to support seamless multimodal operations.

Strategically located in Rajasthan’s agri-producing belt, the terminal is designed to facilitate the movement of commodities including wheat, maize, soybean, de-oiled cake (DOC), stone products, and other agricultural and industrial cargo.

With the launch of the inaugural container service to Bengaluru, SCALAR aims to strengthen logistics connectivity between Rajasthan and South India while planning future expansion of services to western and northern parts of the country. The company said the terminal will offer customers reliable, sustainable and end-to-end logistics solutions supported by modern infrastructure and efficient rail connectivity.

The successful launch was made possible through the collaboration of customers, business partners, Indian Railways, the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), ITC and the SCALAR team.

The commissioning of the Baran Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal is expected to enhance multimodal freight movement, improve supply chain efficiency, reduce logistics costs for producers, and support economic development across Rajasthan while aligning with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti initiative to strengthen integrated logistics infrastructure.
