A supply ship crashed into a wind turbine in the North Sea early Sunday morning, leaving three crew members injured.

The vessel, named Glomar Venture, collided with the wind turbine around 7:00 a.m., about 24 kilometres off the coast of Callantsoog in the Dutch province of North Holland.

The ship was carrying eight people at the time of the incident.

The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) and the Dutch Coastguard quickly dispatched several rescue boats to assist.

According to KNRM, two injured crew members were treated onboard the vessel before being brought to the Den Helder coast.

From there, they were transported to a hospital for further care.

Later, a third crew member also required medical attention and was taken to the hospital, as reported by Dutch broadcaster NOS.

Despite the collision, the Glomar Venture managed to reach the port of Den Helder under its own power. The vessel operates under the Panamanian flag and is owned by a Dutch offshore company.

The exact circumstances leading to the crash are still being investigated.

Dutch police have launched a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

So far, there is no official information about the extent of the damage caused to either the vessel or the wind turbine.
