The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore(MPA) has received a total of 14 proposals to scale up the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for marine fuel, the government body said on Thursday.
The MPA launched an expression of interest in December last year to gather proposals to scale up LNG bunkering – refuelling ships with LNG – at the world’s largest ship refuelling port.
Participants included energy companies, fuel suppliers, traders, bunker operators and storage providers.
The MPA said it will work with shortlisted companies to carry out sea-based LNG trials by the second half of 2025. The proposals and trials will also contribute to the port authority’s review of the LNG bunkering licensing framework.
MPA expects to call for applications for additional bunker supply licences by early 2026, it added.
