A string of Bangladesh bulker owners has been bidding for bulker tonnage of late. One of these is SR Shipping, a subsidiary of Kabir Steel Group, which is actively expanding and modernising its fleet.

Recent SR acquisitions include two 12-year-old supramax vessels, one built by Kawasaki Heavy and the other by Tsuneishi Cebu. The new additions follow SR’s decision to sell two handymax-sized ships for scrap earlier this year.

SR Shipping’s fleet now stands at 20 vessels, with an average fleet age of 16 years. The company is focused on acquiring semi-modern to modern bulkers, sealing seven ship purchases since 2023, including two ultramax vessels.

The latest acquisitions, Indigo Cefiro and Maine Dream, were bought from Japanese owners Misuga Kaiun and IMECS Co. No price has been revealed. VesselsValue estimates each ship is worth around $20m. The ships have been renamed Khadeejah Jahan I and Aisha Sarwar I.
