Unifeeder A/S and MPC Container Ships ASA (MPCC) have announced a new strategic partnership to make collaborative investments in Energy Efficiency Technology.

The cooperation will bring the parties together to promote decarbonisation and efficiency in marine transport, advancing Unifeeder’s aim of reducing emissions by 47 per cent by 2030 and assisting customers in accelerating their Scope 3 emissions reductions.

Under the agreement, Unifeeder and MPCC will jointly invest in efficiency-enhancing retrofits with advanced EET solutions.

The investments will be split among the charterer, Unifeeder, and MPCC. Subsequent cost savings from these energy efficiency measures will be shared by both parties, promoting a mutually beneficial partnership by cutting fuel costs for the charterer and improving asset value for the owner.

Vessel Performance Solutions ApS (VPS) will monitor and measure efficiency savings from the installed EET using real-time data.

Unifeeder’s Director Group Decarbonisation, Christian Hoepfner, said: “By jointly investing in a bundle of Energy Efficiency Technologies and sharing the resulting benefits, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future in maritime transport.”

Unifeeder and MPCC’s combined investments will reportedly focus on a variety of solutions, including the installation of variable frequency drives to change the outputs of high-consumption sections to meet the unique needs of the moment, as well as a filtering system to purify lubricating oil.

Overall, they are predicted to reduce emissions by more than 10 per cent.

Philipp Niesing, Managing Director at MPCC, added: “By overcoming the traditional split incentive structure we hope to drive positive change in the industry, and we are proud to partner with Unifeeder in this undertaking.”

In May, the Unifeeder Group continued its expansion in Latin America (LATAM) by launching its first office in Panama City.
