WPU is planning to develop a new recycling facility at the Port of Rotterdam, as part of efforts to strengthen sustainable waste management and circular economy initiatives.

The proposed plant is expected to process a range of industrial and commercial waste streams, converting them into reusable materials and energy. By locating the facility within the port area, WPU aims to leverage Rotterdam’s extensive logistics network for efficient collection, processing, and distribution.

Industry sources indicate that the project aligns with broader European goals to reduce landfill dependency and promote recycling and resource recovery. The Port of Rotterdam, one of the world’s largest logistics hubs, has been actively encouraging investments in sustainable infrastructure and green industrial projects.

The facility is also expected to support emissions reduction by minimising waste transportation distances and enabling more efficient processing methods. Advanced recycling technologies and automation are likely to be integrated into the plant’s operations.

Once operational, the project could enhance Rotterdam’s position as a leading hub for sustainable logistics and industrial innovation, while contributing to the region’s environmental and economic objectives.
