Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) has secured a long-term shipping contract with Navigator Amon Shipping for two advanced vessels.
The two modern medium gas carriers (MGCs), each with a capacity of 51,000 cubic metres, feature dual-fuel engines and ice-class notation.
They will ensure reliable, year-round access to Northern Europe while supporting the use of renewable and low-emission fuels.
Through long-term time-charters, Yara Clean Ammonia aims to build resilient, efficient, and scalable intercontinental supply chains.
The new vessels will reportedly lower freight costs per tonne, improve margins, and increase operational flexibility.
Built for growing demand and stricter rules, the fleet will future-proof YCA’s shipping and boost competitiveness.
Hans Olav Raen, CEO of Yara Clean Ammonia, said: “This contract is a logistical and cost-efficient way to move large volumes of ammonia to Europe, reducing operational bottlenecks and delivering economies of scale.”
Oeyvind Lindeman, Chief Commercial Officer of Navigator Gas, stated: “Together, we are building the core infrastructure needed to facilitate the uptake of clean energy using technology that will enable compliance with present and future environmental regulations.”
André Risholm, CEO of Amon Maritime, stated: “Partnering with industry leaders such as Navigator Gas and Yara Clean Ammonia allows us to realise this vision and bring ammonia-powered transportation into commercial operation. These vessels mark an important milestone in building a carbon-free future for global shipping.”
In June, YCA announced the successful completion of the world’s first ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of ammonia at anchorage in Western Australia.
