Grape export from Nashik district declined by 25% in the Jan-Feb period this year when compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

Grape exports usually begin in the first week of Jan and continue until mid-April. Nashik district has exported 66,000 tonnes of grapes between Jan and Feb this year. In comparison, last year, the district had exported 87,000 tonnes during the same period.

According to the state agriculture department, the district, so far this year, has exported 66,000 tonnes of grapes, including 45,000 tonnes exported to European nations. The remaining 21,000 tonnes were exported to non-European nations.

In the 2023-24 grape season (Dec-April), the district exported around 1.6 lakh tonnes of grapes, including 1.2 lakh tonnes to European countries, and 39,000 tonnes to non-European countries.

As per norms, farmers must register their vineyards with the state agriculture department to export their produce. “So far, 28,829 grape farmers from Nashik district have registered around 18,900 hectares of vineyards for export of grapes from Nashik for the 2024-25 grape season,” said officials from the agriculture department.

Last year, 28,000 farmers had registered around 18,600 hectares of vineyards for grape export in Nashik district. The area under grape plantation in Nashik district is estimated to be around 58,367 hectares, including 22,000 hectares in Niphad taluka, 15,758 hectares in Dindori taluka, 11,671 hectares in Nashik taluka, and 5,148 hectares in Chandwad taluka. The rest of the grape plantations are located in Bagalan and Kalwan talukas.

Officials from the state agriculture department said there has been a marginal rise in the registration of vineyards for the export of grapes. As the export will continue until mid-April, we are expecting grape export from the district to touch 1.5 lakh tonnes this season.
