A team from AITWA led by Ashok Goyal met Shri K R Uday Bhaskar, Principal Chief Commissioner, Maharashtra, on April 29 to discuss critical challenges faced by the transport and logistics sector.

The AITWA apprised Shri Bhaskar on issues such as reducing enroute interceptions and penalties – Minimizing unnecessary checks to curb corruption and reduce logistics costs and expanding the scope of Circular 64/2018 for establishing clear SOPs to ensure Section 129 is not invoked indiscriminately.

The Association impressed upon the Principal Chief Commissioner the need to ease compliance burden for GTAs under RCM by streamlining return filing to eliminate duplicate and unnecessary compliance.

It also urged Shri Bhaskar to clarify ISD Rules for movable assets by ensuring new regulations do not apply to trucks that operate nationwide.

Shri Bhaskar acknowledged the practical issues raised by AITWA and assured a thorough review, with a commitment to escalate discussions further.

Shri Bhaskar especially appreciated AITWA’s emphasis on technology-driven interventions, recognizing their potential to enhance efficiency and transparency in the sector. He also assured AITWA’s inclusion in upcoming trade-related discussions, where crucial industry concerns will be deliberated.

AITWA remains committed to advocating progressive policies and plans to extend similar dialogues across different states to reinforce industry engagement and minimize legal hurdles for genuine taxpayers, said Abhishek A Gupta, General Secretary, AITWA
