In a bold move, Orient Express Lines — a subsidiary of India’s Transworld Group — has sold its sole container vessel, Bharani (3,635 TEU, built 2010), to France’s CMA CGM, locking in a profit estimated to approach USD 10 million.

The sale marks a clear exit from the container-ship owning business by Orient Express, whose fleet had dwindled to just this vessel in recent years. The deal underscores the changing dynamics in the global shipping sector, where aging assets and volatile freight markets are prompting strategic repositioning.
