VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port has registered a robust performance in October 2025, handling 3.94 million tonnes of cargo and 75,110 TEUs of containers — an increase of 10.94% and 20.83%, respectively, compared to 3.55 million tonnes and 62,158 TEUs handled during the same period in 2024.

According to a press statement, the port has handled 25.23 million tonnes of cargo and 5,03,204 TEUs from April to October in the current financial year (2025–26). This represents a 2.71% rise in overall cargo throughput and an 8.44% increase in container traffic, compared with 24.56 million tonnes of cargo and 4,64,060 TEUs recorded in the corresponding period of last year.

Operational activity also remained buoyant, with 1,064 vessels calling at the port up to October 2025, up from 1,004 vessels during the same period in 2024. The port has further improved its operational efficiency, reducing the average turnaround time (TRT) for container vessels from 20.16 hours to 19.20 hours.

Commodity-wise, several cargo categories posted significant growth. Petroleum products grew by 11.16%, edible oil by 8.57%, fertilizer by 34.18%, fertilizer raw materials by 8.32%, rock phosphate by 9.85%, salt by an impressive 53%, and construction materials by a remarkable 177.22%, underscoring the port’s expanding and diversified cargo profile.

VOC Port Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit said the consistent growth across cargo segments reflects the port’s strong operational performance, enhanced efficiency, and customer-centric approach.
