In a significant development aimed at boosting trade and industrial growth, an inland port will be established in Rajasthan’s Jalore district, providing direct access to the Arabian Sea via the Kandla Port in Gujarat. Rajasthan’s Water Resources Minister, Suresh Rawat, announced the project on Tuesday.
The project, spearheaded by the central government with assistance from the Rajasthan administration, involves the construction of a 262-kilometre waterway connecting Jalore with the Gulf of Kutch. This initiative, expected to cost over Rs 10,000 crore, aims to ease cargo transport and reduce the burden on road and rail infrastructure.
The project’s pre-feasibility report suggests it could create more than 50,000 jobs in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and surrounding areas. The port will significantly benefit industries in the region, with improved connectivity attracting investors and facilitating economic development. An MoU was signed in Mumbai last month, further solidifying the project’s commitment and coordination between state and national entities.
