Indian Railways has teamed up with Hyderabad-based AION-Tech Solutions Ltd to introduce an Artificial Intelligence-enabled parcel delivery system aimed at creating seamless door-to-door connectivity across the country. The initiative, built around AION-Tech’s logistics platform ROQIT, is expected to transform how small and medium-weight parcels move across the national network.
Powered by a cloud-native SaaS architecture, the new system integrates parcel booking, real-time tracking, smart load planning, and electric first- and last-mile delivery into a single platform. The Railway Ministry has awarded ROQIT the mandate to design a solution that eliminates long-standing logistical bottlenecks such as mixed track usage, shared freight–passenger routes, and limited customer visibility.
ROQIT plans to introduce predictive algorithms, real-time data flows, and fully paperless processes to streamline operations. The system’s trial phase is scheduled to begin under the South-Central Railway in January–February 2026, followed by a nationwide rollout after performance evaluation.
A key feature of the project is its sustainability focus. AION-Tech’s subsidiary, ETO Motors, will deploy electric vehicles for clean first- and last-mile connectivity, supporting Indian Railways’ broader push toward carbon-neutral operations.
Once launched, customers will be able to book parcels through a mobile app, track shipments in real time, make digital payments, and schedule door-to-door pickups and deliveries. The app will also feature a marketplace-style interface enabling users to compare logistics options by speed, cost, and distance — a capability largely missing in the current system.
Railway officials believe the initiative could unlock significant growth in India’s underserved small-parcel segment, which is currently dominated by fragmented and unorganized players. By combining the national rail network’s capacity with AI-driven logistics and app-based convenience, Indian Railways aims to create one of the country’s most advanced parcel delivery platforms, provided the pilot phase delivers the expected results.
