The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) recently met with JSW Murbe Port to discuss the development of new rail infrastructure along the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
The discussions focused on establishing rail connectivity at key stations between New Palghar and New Saphale. These developments are proposed under Schedule I of the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) Policy, which aims to bridge the gap between industrial hubs and transport arteries through private participation.
The meeting, chaired by Shobhit Bhatnagar, Director of Operations & Business Development at DFCCIL, highlights the necessity of seamless port-rail integration.
The dedicated corridor aims to accelerate cargo movement, enabling faster evacuation of both bulk and containerised goods. This improved efficiency is expected to reduce logistics costs by lowering overall transit expenses. Furthermore, the initiative will enhance hinterland access, connecting the port more effectively to inland markets across Northern and Western India.
The proposal is a direct extension of the PM Gati Shakti initiative, which prioritises multimodal logistics and the decongestion of existing rail routes. The WDFC serves as a high-capacity freight artery, and integrating private ports like JSW Murbe is seen as a vital step in boosting India’s global logistics competitiveness.
