Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is preparing to launch its new Eagle service, a dedicated container shipping route linking Australia and New Zealand with the United States East Coast, aimed at enhancing direct trade connectivity between Oceania and North America.

The service — scheduled to begin operations next week — marks a significant expansion of MSC’s transpacific network and will be operated by a string of vessels typically in the 2,500 TEU to 4,500 TEU size range.

Under the planned rotation, the Eagle service will call at key regional hubs, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington in Australia and New Zealand, before heading to major US East Coast gateways such as Philadelphia, Savannah and Freeport. The loop will also include additional calls en route that further broaden port reach for shippers across the trade lane.

MSC’s new Eagle service follows earlier carrier strategy announcements to expand standalone East-West networks and increase direct connectivity across global trade corridors, particularly as the company reconfigures its routes in the wake of evolving demand patterns.

By offering a dedicated direct service rather than relying on transshipment or feeder links, MSC expects the Eagle service to reduce transit times and provide more reliable schedules for exporters in Oceania targeting the US East Coast market.
