India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is aimed at strengthening connectivity, logistics and trade across regions, describing it as a strategic initiative to enhance economic integration.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Dr Jaishankar emphasised that reforms of the United Nations are urgently required to ensure the global body reflects contemporary geopolitical realities and remains effective in addressing present-day challenges. He reiterated India’s support for the UN@80 agenda, particularly calling for meaningful reform of the UN Security Council.

Addressing questions on India’s oil procurement strategy, the Minister stated that Indian oil companies—like their counterparts in Europe and elsewhere—make purchasing decisions based on availability, cost and risk assessment, prioritising national interest.

Dr Jaishankar underlined that the global order is moving towards greater multipolarity, with the emergence of multiple independent and autonomous centres of decision-making.

On the sidelines of the conference, he engaged with G7 Foreign Ministers, highlighting India’s role in safeguarding sea lines of communication, acting as a first responder during crises, strengthening port security and contributing to resilient submarine cable infrastructure.

In a social media post, the Minister noted that discussions with G7 counterparts reflected strong convergences and shared interests between India and the grouping, particularly in ensuring global stability and secure connectivity frameworks.
