The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has inaugurated a new Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Gulaothi on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), marking another step toward strengthening India’s rail-based logistics infrastructure.
The newly launched terminal is designed to enhance cargo handling capacity and facilitate faster, more efficient freight movement across key industrial corridors. Strategically located, the Gulaothi facility is expected to serve as an important hub for bulk and containerized cargo, improving connectivity for industries in the region.
Officials said the terminal aligns with the government’s broader Gati Shakti initiative, which focuses on integrated infrastructure development and multimodal connectivity. By enabling seamless transfer of goods between rail and other modes of transport, the facility aims to reduce transit times and logistics costs.
Industry stakeholders believe the addition of such terminals along the freight corridor will help decongest traditional rail routes and shift more cargo from road to rail, improving overall supply chain efficiency.
The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, a key component of India’s logistics modernization strategy, is expected to significantly boost freight capacity and reliability once fully operational. The commissioning of the Gulaothi terminal is seen as a step forward in unlocking the corridor’s full potential.
With increasing demand for efficient cargo movement, DFCCIL’s continued expansion of logistics infrastructure is expected to support industrial growth and enhance India’s competitiveness in domestic and global trade.
