Xiamen Feihongshun Shipping is stepping up its container fleet expansion through a fresh order for two newbuild vessels from Chinese shipyards, strengthening its position in the feeder and mid-size boxship segment.

The non-operating owner has contracted Jiangsu Zhiyuan Shipbuilding to construct a 4,350 TEU containership, which will become its largest vessel to date. In addition, Ningbo Boda Shipbuilding will build a 3,300 TEU unit, further expanding the company’s regional container capacity.

The larger vessel is reportedly priced at around $42.7 million, with delivery scheduled for December 2027, while the smaller ship is valued at approximately $30 million. Both orders reflect continued confidence in mid-sized container tonnage demand amid steady feeder trade growth.

Industry reports note that Ningbo Boda has prior delivery experience with the owner, having already completed a 3,004 TEU vessel and preparing another unit, indicating an ongoing relationship between the two parties.

The move highlights a broader trend among Chinese shipping players investing in new feeder and regional vessels as global container trade stabilizes and operators prepare for long-term fleet renewal cycles.

In summary: Xiamen Feihongshun is steadily scaling up its container fleet with cost-efficient, mid-size newbuilds aimed at strengthening its regional shipping footprint ahead of 2027 deliveries.
