At a high-level Consultative Workshop, Venkatesapathy S., Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, delivered a comprehensive and forward-looking presentation outlining the future trajectory of India’s maritime sector.

During his address, Venkatesapathy elaborated on the Government’s ambitious “One Nation, One Port” initiative, a reform-oriented framework aimed at standardizing port processes, documentation, and operational protocols across the country. The initiative is expected to streamline procedures, reduce turnaround time, and improve ease of doing business for stakeholders across the maritime and logistics value chain.

He also provided key insights into the proposed Indian Ports Act, 2025, which is set to replace the century-old regulatory framework governing ports. The new legislation seeks to introduce modern governance structures, promote greater autonomy for port authorities, and establish a more robust and transparent regulatory ecosystem aligned with global best practices.

Highlighting the broader vision, Venkatesapathy emphasized the importance of integrated and sustainable port-led development. He noted that the reforms are designed not only to enhance operational efficiency but also to foster multimodal connectivity, encourage private sector participation, and support India’s transition towards greener and more resilient maritime infrastructure.

The presentation underscored the Government’s commitment to transforming India into a globally competitive maritime hub through policy innovation, digitalisation, and infrastructure modernization.
