Gatwick Airport has acquired an on-airport cargo centre as part of efforts to strengthen its air freight infrastructure and expand cargo handling capabilities amid growing logistics demand.

Airport officials said the acquisition will support improved cargo processing, warehousing, and distribution operations while enhancing the airport’s ability to handle a wider range of freight shipments, including time-sensitive and high-value goods.

Industry analysts noted that airports are increasingly investing in cargo infrastructure as global air freight demand continues to evolve alongside e-commerce growth, pharmaceutical logistics, and changing supply chain requirements.

The new cargo facility is expected to provide additional operational flexibility and support future expansion of freight services at Gatwick, which serves as one of the United Kingdom’s major aviation gateways.

Logistics stakeholders said enhanced cargo infrastructure will help improve handling efficiency, turnaround times, and connectivity for freight operators and airline partners using the airport.

The acquisition also aligns with broader efforts across the aviation sector to diversify revenue streams and strengthen cargo operations as airports continue adapting to shifts in passenger and freight market dynamics.
