Rolls-Royce is set to strengthen its India operations with the inauguration of its third co-owned aero-engine component manufacturing unit in Hosur this week, marking a significant step in the company’s long-term “Make in India” strategy.
The new facility, developed with an investment of around £30 million, will enhance the sourcing of high-precision components for both civil and military aircraft engines. The plant has been established under the company’s 50:50 joint venture with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited — International Aerospace Manufacturing Private Limited (IAMPL), which already operates production lines in Bengaluru and Hosur.
Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President (Transformation), India, said the expansion reflects the company’s growing commitment to developing India as a strategic manufacturing and engineering hub.
Alongside the manufacturing expansion, Rolls-Royce is also scaling up its Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru. The facility supports critical business functions including HR, finance, and procurement, while engineering teams collaborate closely with the company’s civil aerospace and defence divisions worldwide.
The Bengaluru centre is expected to become Rolls-Royce’s largest capability hub globally, supporting the company’s ambitions in advanced propulsion systems and future defence programmes in India.
The investments come amid strong financial performance for the UK-headquartered group, which reported an operating profit of £3.5 billion in 2025.
Rolls-Royce is also positioning itself for future Indian defence opportunities, including potential participation in engine development for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme and collaboration with the Indian Navy on electric warship propulsion projects.
Global CEO Tufan Erginbilgic, who visited India twice in the past seven months, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the country.
“We have deep ambitions to develop India as a home for Rolls-Royce building on our strong and successful partnership,” Erginbilgic had said during his India visit last October.
