GENMA has secured a major equipment supply contract from JSW Kolkata Container Terminal Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of JSW Infrastructure Ltd, for the delivery of three Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and nine Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes for its upcoming terminal project in eastern India.
The order further strengthens GENMA’s position in the Indian port equipment sector and highlights the growing investment momentum in modern container handling infrastructure across the country.
JSW Kolkata Container Terminal forms part of the expanding logistics and port network of JSW Infrastructure, India’s second-largest private commercial port operator. The company has been steadily increasing its footprint on both the eastern and western coasts with a focus on operational efficiency, multimodal connectivity and environmentally sustainable port development.
According to the project schedule, deliveries of the cranes are expected to begin in 2027. The Kolkata terminal project, however, presents unique logistical and operational challenges due to its inland waterway location.
Unlike conventional seaport deliveries, transportation access to the terminal is regulated through lock gates, requiring the cranes to be shipped in multiple consignments using smaller-tonnage vessels. The complex delivery sequence is expected to demand extensive shipment planning, synchronized logistics coordination and phased on-site assembly operations.
In addition, execution schedules will need to account for eastern India’s monsoon conditions, with installation activities planned carefully around limited weather windows to avoid disruptions.
Rajendra Patil, Regional Sales Director at GENMA, said the project demonstrates the company’s expertise in handling highly customized engineering and delivery requirements.
“While this project presents distinct challenges—ranging from strict vessel size restrictions to the need for precise monsoon avoidance during on-site work—it also underscores GENMA’s proven capabilities in delivering tailored engineering solutions and end-to-end project management,” he stated.
The project also aligns with the sustainability objectives of the JSW Group, which emphasizes long-term environmental responsibility in infrastructure development and operational strategy. GENMA noted that its green crane designs and energy-efficient technologies complement JSW Infrastructure’s focus on sustainable port operations.
The contract is seen as another important step in the modernization of India’s eastern maritime logistics ecosystem, particularly as container traffic and industrial investments continue to grow along the eastern coast.
