Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has inaugurated a new cargo terminal to strengthen its air freight handling capabilities and support growing trade volumes from South and Central India. The expanded facility is expected to improve cargo processing efficiency, increase handling capacity and support faster movement of export and import shipments across key international and domestic markets.
Airport officials said the new terminal has been equipped with advanced cargo handling systems, modern warehousing infrastructure and improved cold-chain facilities to cater to a wide range of commodities including pharmaceuticals, perishables, electronics, engineering goods and e-commerce shipments. Hyderabad airport is one of India’s major pharma export gateways and handles significant volumes of temperature-sensitive cargo.
The expansion comes amid rising air cargo demand driven by growth in India’s manufacturing, pharmaceutical, electronics and express logistics sectors. Industry stakeholders said the upgraded terminal would help reduce turnaround times, improve cargo tracking and support integrated logistics operations for airlines, freight forwarders and exporters.
Hyderabad airport has been steadily strengthening its cargo infrastructure through investments in automation, digital systems and specialised handling zones. Aviation analysts noted that the new terminal is likely to reinforce the airport’s position as a major air cargo hub in southern India, particularly for pharmaceutical and life sciences exports.
The development also aligns with India’s broader push to modernise airport logistics infrastructure and improve multimodal connectivity under national trade and logistics initiatives. Experts said expanding cargo infrastructure at major airports will play a critical role in supporting export growth, supply chain resilience and faster international trade movement in the coming years.
