NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub on Thursday unveiled “Future of India’s Semiconductor Industry”, a comprehensive 10-year roadmap aimed at strengthening India’s position across the global semiconductor value chain and accelerating the country’s emergence as a major semiconductor hub.

The roadmap was launched by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Ashok Lahiri.

The report outlines India’s long-term vision for building a resilient and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem as the country transitions from ecosystem creation to ecosystem deepening.

The roadmap projects the creation of a USD 120–150 billion semiconductor ecosystem by 2035 and identifies key priorities, investment areas and emerging opportunities across the semiconductor value chain, including chip design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, equipment and materials.

According to the report, leadership in frontier technologies such as semiconductors requires sustained capability development, long-term planning and strategic investments ahead of demand cycles.

The initiative comes as India intensifies efforts to position itself as a trusted global partner in semiconductor manufacturing and electronics supply chains amid increasing geopolitical shifts and growing demand for advanced technologies worldwide.

The roadmap is expected to serve as a strategic guide for policymakers, industry stakeholders, academia and investors to drive innovation, strengthen domestic capabilities and enhance India’s role in the global semiconductor industry over the next decade.
