The directive, issued by the aviation ministry, seeks to ensure uninterrupted cargo processing services throughout the day and night, enabling importers, exporters, airlines and logistics providers to move goods more efficiently. The initiative is expected to particularly benefit time-sensitive shipments such as garments, pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce cargo.
Industry stakeholders have long called for extended cargo clearance hours to address bottlenecks that can arise during peak traffic periods. By transitioning to 24/7 operations, authorities aim to shorten cargo dwell times, accelerate customs and documentation procedures, and improve overall supply chain performance.
Dhaka Airport serves as Bangladesh’s primary air cargo gateway and plays a critical role in supporting the country’s export-oriented economy. The airport handles substantial volumes of ready-made garments, which remain Bangladesh’s largest export category, alongside growing shipments of pharmaceuticals, agricultural products and other manufactured goods.
Officials expect the around-the-clock clearance system to enhance the reliability of air freight services and align airport operations more closely with international logistics standards. Continuous processing is also expected to help airlines optimize cargo schedules and improve connections with major global trade routes.
