Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has taken another significant step towards strengthening its role in the global energy transition by engaging with a high-level delegation from Japan’s Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to explore opportunities in green energy exports.
The delegation held discussions with PPA Chairman Shri P. L. Haranadh and Deputy Chairperson Shri T. Venu Gopal on leveraging Paradip Port’s infrastructure to support the export of green fuels, reinforcing the port’s strategic position in India’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem.
The visit follows the recently announced long-term agreement between ACME Group and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, under which ACME will supply 100,000 tonnes of green methanol annually for 10 years from its upcoming green methanol production facility at Paradip. The project forms part of Odisha’s proposed ₹67,000 crore investment in green hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol production.
Officials highlighted that Paradip Port’s deep-draft berths, modern cargo-handling infrastructure and strategic location on India’s eastern coast make it well-positioned to become a major export gateway for low-carbon fuels. The collaboration is expected to enhance India’s role in the global supply chain for sustainable marine fuels while supporting the decarbonization goals of the international shipping industry.
The discussions also underscored the growing importance of partnerships between Indian and international stakeholders in advancing clean energy trade and developing infrastructure aligned with the environmental objectives of the International Maritime Organization, including the adoption of IMO-compliant alternative marine fuels.
With increasing investments in green hydrogen and its derivatives, Paradip Port is steadily emerging as a key hub for sustainable energy exports, contributing to India’s ambitions of becoming a global supplier of clean fuels and supporting the maritime sector’s transition towards net-zero emissions.
