India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has extended the deadline for importing raw sugar under the duty-free import facility by two months, providing additional time for eligible importers to complete shipments.

The extension is expected to offer greater flexibility to sugar importers and businesses that depend on raw sugar as an industrial input. It may also help companies manage shipment schedules, procurement arrangements and import-related documentation more efficiently.

The duty-free facility is intended to support eligible imports subject to the applicable Foreign Trade Policy provisions and conditions. The extended deadline gives importers additional time to coordinate with overseas suppliers, arrange shipping and complete customs clearance procedures.

For businesses operating in the sugar and food-processing sectors, the move could help ease short-term logistical pressures and improve supply-chain planning. Importers should review the latest DGFT notification to confirm the revised deadline, eligibility requirements and any conditions applicable to their shipments.

The extension highlights the importance of timely trade-policy adjustments in helping businesses manage import commitments and maintain continuity in supply chains.
