Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal today said that India should target to increase the value of spices exports to 10 billion dollars annually by 2030, which currently stands at 4 billion dollars. The Union Minister proposed to organize the world’s largest spice exhibition, conference, and symposium of the spice industry next year in New Delhi and invite global players to it. He was addressing the Spices Export Excellence Awards function in Navi Mumbai.
While lauding Indian players in the spice industry, he said that India is second to none and the spice industry has immense potential. Mr. Goyal said that more than 3.5 crore Indians live in different countries. He said they are not the consumers of Indian spices but also their brand ambassadors. Mr. Goyal presented the Spices Export Excellence Awards on this occasion.
The 14th World Spice Congress commenced in Navi Mumbai yesterday. The first day of the event commenced with the inauguration of the exhibition highlighting the variety of spices and value-added spice products as well as innovative technologies and solutions in the spices industry and a visual presentation on the Indian Spice Sector by Mr. D Sathiyan, Secretary of the Spices Board.
The theme for this Congress is “VISION 2030: Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence, and Safety” (S.P.I.C.E.S).
