AD Ports Group has signed several agreements to expand its operations in Kazakhstan.
The agreements were exchanged during the visit of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Kazakhstan.
As part of its ongoing partnership with KazMunayGas (KMG), established in December 2022, AD Ports Group’s Managing Director and Group CEO, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, and KMG Chairman, Askhat Galimovich Khassenov exchanged a signed agreement focused on expanding fleet operations in the Caspian and open seas.
The agreement includes plans to commission up to four shallow-draft container vessels for the Caspian Sea, each with a 780 TEU capacity, and explores joint investment in up to four Aframax crude oil tankers to strengthen support for Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, and Nurzhan Marabayev, General Director of SEMURG Invest LLP, exchanged preliminary Heads of Terms to form a joint venture for developing and operating the Sarzha Multipurpose Terminal (SMT) at Kuryk Seaport. The terminal will handle general cargo, containers, and dry bulk.
AD Ports Group also signed MoUs with three Kazakh entities — Kazakh Invest, the Chamber of International Commerce of Kazakhstan, and Special Economic Zone Morport Aktau — to explore joint trade development initiatives between the UAE and Kazakhstan.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, said: “The steps we announce today are not only testimony of our increased interest in Kazakhstan, a major Central Asian trade hub, but also of the execution of our long-term strategy to develop the ‘Middle Corridor’ land passage from China to Europe.
“The Middle Corridor is the shortest, least environmentally impactful way to transport goods from China to Europe, and our investments reflect Kazakhstan’s growing role as an emerging export leader.”
Recently, AD Ports Group and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed a 50-year renewable usufruct agreement to develop and operate a 20 kilometres (km²) industrial and logistics park near Port Said on the Mediterranean coast.
