Andhra Pradesh, with its 975-km coastline and 15 operational seaports, is rolling out an ambitious ₹23,000-crore logistics and road infrastructure plan aimed at transforming the state into one of India’s most efficient maritime gateways. The initiative seeks to integrate ports, highways, and logistics systems under a unified strategy to attract large-scale industrial investment and strengthen regional competitiveness.

Of the total outlay, ₹18,485 crore will be channelled towards port and harbour road connectivity, while ₹4,500 crore is earmarked for upgrading state highways and Roads & Buildings (R&B) networks. The government also plans to establish a dedicated Logistics Infrastructure Corporation to coordinate planning, mobilise resources, and consolidate all logistics-related functions.

“The government wants to create the building blocks of the state’s logistics management ecosystem,” said a senior official from the Infrastructure and Investment Department. “Once operational, the corporation will integrate transportation, warehousing, material handling, and information systems into a single framework.”

The plan comes in response to persistent logistics inefficiencies that have hindered the competitiveness of industries such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, textiles, engineering goods, and renewable energy. By aligning infrastructure development with industrial and export corridors, the government aims to eliminate bottlenecks and foster a more seamless movement of goods.

At the core of the blueprint are 23 strategic road projects covering 432 km, designed to connect nine key ports — Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, Nizampatnam, Mulapeta, Ramayapatnam, Machilipatnam, and the Krishna River terminal. These projects are expected to significantly enhance hinterland connectivity and reduce logistics costs for exporters.

Parallelly, the state is upgrading nearly 15,000 km of highways and R&B roads. Tenders have been finalised for 1,250 km under the NABARD RIDF tranche scheme, slated for completion by 2026. Additional works include improvements to 1,433 km of state highways, 5,946 km of district roads, 2,104 km of major highways, and 4,233 km of category-C roads.

With a total road length of nearly 1.6 lakh km — including 8,360 km of national highways and 12,643 km of state highways — Andhra Pradesh boasts one of the country’s most extensive road networks, though much of it requires upgrading to meet industrial standards.

Officials say the logistics master plan represents more than just infrastructure development. It is a strategic shift toward integrating Andhra Pradesh’s industrial clusters with global trade routes, positioning the state as a key trade gateway for the neighbouring regions of Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
