In a time-sensitive logistics operation, a large consignment of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical cargo was successfully transported from Mumbai to Lagos through a dedicated air charter, ensuring strict compliance with global quality standards.
The shipment, comprising 330 pallets and weighing 46,999.85 kg, was intended to support vital aid programmes. However, the operation faced a major regulatory hurdle, as relief cargo permits were expected to take up to 3–4 weeks for approval. At the same time, the shipper was under pressure to clear warehouse space in origin.
The primary challenge extended beyond securing air capacity—it involved maintaining pharmaceutical integrity within the required 15–25°C temperature range while ensuring full compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards throughout the waiting period.
To address this, GDP-certified trucks were mobilised to swiftly reposition the entire cargo to Mumbai within three days. The shipment was then stored in a secure, temperature-controlled, GDP-compliant facility located close to the airport, safeguarding product quality during the permit approval phase.
Once the necessary clearances were obtained, the logistics team executed a seamless airlift. Despite tight market capacity, a full Boeing 747-400 freighter was secured, enabling the movement of approximately 55 metric tonnes of cargo across 39 Unit Load Devices (ULDs). The entire consignment was transported in a single uplift, ensuring efficiency, speed, and minimal handling risk.
This operation highlights the importance of agile planning, regulatory expertise, and robust cold chain infrastructure in executing complex humanitarian logistics missions under tight timelines.
