The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) held a high-level meeting with the National Centre of Excellence in Green Port and Shipping (NCoEGPS) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) at TERI Headquarters in New Delhi to advance India’s maritime sustainability and decarbonization agenda.
The meeting was led by Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, and focused on strengthening cooperation to support the country’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable maritime sector.
Key discussions covered a wide range of priority areas, including green shipping, green ports, alternative fuels, shore power infrastructure, ship recycling, maritime sustainability, capacity building and the broader maritime energy transition. Participants also reviewed progress on the proposed National Maritime Decarbonization Policy Framework being developed under the Maritime India @ Net Zero programme.
The deliberations explored opportunities for enhanced technical support, stakeholder engagement and knowledge-sharing partnerships to accelerate the implementation of green maritime initiatives across the country.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of DG Shipping and NCoEGPS–TERI to promoting innovation, evidence-based policymaking and collaborative action aimed at building a sustainable, resilient and future-ready maritime ecosystem in India.
