The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday announced its entry into the port and logistics sector with the signing of an agreement to develop a real-time automated cargo evacuation system (e-FTS) at Kandla Port in Gujarat.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DMRC, the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).

Under the proposed arrangement, DMRC will oversee the operations of the pilot project for 25 years during the Operations and Maintenance phase. The detailed scope of work for each participating organisation will be finalised in a forthcoming ‘Definitive Agreement’.

According to DMRC, the e-FTS is an advanced automated freight transport and logistics system specifically designed for port environments. It will leverage cutting-edge technologies, including blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT), to enhance operational efficiency, lower costs, and promote sustainability in cargo handling.

The system, once demonstrated successfully, could be replicated across other port locations based on site-specific requirements and client needs, DMRC added.

Meanwhile, earlier on Tuesday, DMRC was also selected for the prestigious ICI Awards 2025 by the Indian Concrete Institute in Chennai. The corporation will be honoured under the category of ‘Outstanding Pre-stressed Concrete Structure in the Country’ for its Maujpur–Majlis Park corridor, part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-4 expansion.

The award will be formally presented during the quinquennial ACECON conference scheduled in December 2025 in Hyderabad.

The Maujpur–Majlis Park corridor, an extension of the Pink Line, is set to form India’s first circular metro corridor, promising to significantly improve connectivity and ease urban travel across the National Capital Region.
