DP World has set a new handling record at London Gateway in 2025, surpassing 3 million TEUs, driven by the newly operational fourth berth and additional vessel calls on Gemini Cooperation’s Asia-Europe routes.

The milestone represents more than 52 per cent growth from 1.9 million TEUs in 2024, keeping London Gateway on track to become Britain’s leading container port.

DP World also reported growth at its Southampton terminal, which exceeded 2 million TEUs , bringing the company’s UK total to over 5 million TEUs in a national market exceeding 9 million TEUs.

Expansion continues at London Gateway with two new all-electric berths under construction in a £1 billion ($1.3 billion) investment, which will bring the total to six berths capable of handling the world’s largest containerships.

A second rail terminal became operational in 2025, and a £170 million ($227 million) BOXBAY container handling system is planned over the next two years.

Stephen Whittingham, Executive Vice President – North Europe, said: “Every container moving through London Gateway and Southampton supports British business and daily life – from food on shelves to goods keeping manufacturers and high streets running.

“Surpassing 5 million TEUs demonstrates how investment in capacity, technology, and resilience allows DP World to move goods more reliably, sustainably, and efficiently.”
