A high-level delegation of ambassadors and senior diplomats from the European Union and 17 European countries visited the Vizhinjam International Seaport, underscoring the project’s growing global significance.

Representatives from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden were part of the visiting team.

During the visit, Divya S. Iyer, Director of Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. (VISL), and Pradeep Jayaraman, CEO of Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd., presented the port’s unique advantages and strategic capabilities. Vizhinjam is India’s first semi-automated container port and is positioned to become a leading global trans-shipment hub.

The port features an AI-powered Vessel Traffic Management System developed in collaboration with IIT-Madras, real-time tracking facilities, and advanced container handling technology.

The delegation was also briefed on Vizhinjam’s community engagement initiatives, including the disbursement of ₹114 crore in compensation to nearly 3,000 residents and the construction of a modern fishing harbour worth ₹250 crore.

Sustainability formed a key part of the discussions, with officials outlining plans for green hydrogen and ammonia projects, the promotion of LNG and other clean fuels, and the creation of eco-friendly maritime infrastructure. These initiatives are in line with India’s Green Shipping Revolution.

The visit highlighted Vizhinjam’s potential to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s maritime future while boosting global trade, sustainable growth, and international cooperation.
