A fire aboard the Indonesia-flagged container ship VERIZON was brought under control after breaking out while the vessel was alongside at TPK Berlian, part of Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, on 29 December 2025, according to local emergency-response reporting and statements from the port operator.
Surabaya’s Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP) said the fire originated near the ship’s fuel tank and engine room and later affected several internal compartments, including a paint room, storage space and a CO₂ tank room.
The emergency response involved municipal fire units, rescue teams and port firefighting resources operated by Pelindo. A Command Center 112 report said 16 fire units, five rescue teams and three Pelindo firefighting units were deployed. Four tugboats were also used during the firefighting operation.
All 22 crew members were evacuated from the vessel, and no injuries or fatalities were reported. Command Center 112 said the main fire was extinguished at around 09:05 WIB, with conditions declared stable later in the morning.
The terminal operator, PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, said the fire had been fully extinguished by 09:20 WIB and that operations at TPK Berlian had resumed.
Authorities said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
