An uptick in loads from farm and industrial supplies in the first quarter of the financial year, has led to a jump in movement of logistics from the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh.

A good harvesting season of the rabi crops and industrial supplies has pushed up the logistic movement from the city, leading to waiting’s for some destinations in the south and Himalayan states, said truckers.

Rakesh Tiwari, state president, All India Motor Transport Congress, Madhya Pradesh said, “Logistic movement has gone up substantially in the first quarter and bookings for the rest of the weeks are also high. Bookings for farm supplies and agricultural supplies like pumps, machine parts and others have increased and the volume is higher than the past season.”

Engaging more than 90 per cent truckers in transportation, the estimated movement of trucks from Indore is around 4,000-5,000 per day, according to the association of transporters.

Transporters said, most truckers and transport companies are booked atleast a week in advance amid a surge in loads.

Vijay Kalra, former vice president, All India Motor Transport Congress (West Zone) said, “Farm load has jumped and is expected to remain higher because Madhya Pradesh is largely an agrarian economy and in the harvesting season crops and other related products are transported from the state to other locations in the country.”

Transport load led by agricultural crops, kirana items and industrial goods has improved and recorded higher than the last summer, according to All India Motor Transport Congress.

March to June is the peak season for transporters where over 50 per cent of the
    annual load is transported.
