The Ganga Expressway is being transformed into a large-scale manufacturing and logistics corridor, with investment proposals worth ₹46,660 crore already in the pipeline. The Uttar Pradesh government is positioning the 594-kilometre highway as an “expressway-cum-industrial backbone” aimed at accelerating economic growth by combining high-speed connectivity with industrial expansion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to dedicate the expressway to the nation on April 29 in Hardoi, marking the launch of one of India’s longest access-controlled highways. The six-lane corridor will connect Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east, significantly enhancing both passenger and freight movement.

Designed to promote regional balance, the corridor is expected to boost economic activity in districts such as Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh—areas that have traditionally lagged in industrial development. Industry experts believe the project will generate employment, raise incomes, and improve local infrastructure.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority under an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster model. As part of this plan, 12 industrial nodes will be developed across 12 districts along the expressway, with 6,507 acres of land already identified.

Investor interest has been strong, with 987 expressions of intent received across sectors such as manufacturing, warehousing, logistics parks, e-commerce supply chains, and agro-processing. The government expects these investments to create a robust industrial ecosystem, reduce logistics costs, and improve supply chain efficiency.

The largest industrial cluster is planned in Bulandshahr over 2,798 acres, with additional nodes in Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, and Shahjahanpur. Each cluster is being tailored to the district’s local strengths and geographic advantages to ensure balanced and sustainable development.

Stretching from Bijauli village in Meerut to Judhapur Dandu village in Prayagraj, the expressway passes through 12 districts, enhancing connectivity between production centres and markets. Travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj is expected to drop from around 12 hours to just six to seven hours, significantly improving logistics efficiency.

Trial runs have already been completed, including testing of toll systems. Toll collection is expected to begin from May 1, with estimated rates of ₹2.55 per kilometre for cars—translating to about ₹1,515 for a one-way journey. Charges for commercial vehicles could go up to ₹4,840.

With infrastructure and industrial development advancing simultaneously, the Ganga Expressway is set to play a pivotal role in positioning Uttar Pradesh as a major manufacturing and logistics hub while driving long-term economic growth across the state.
