The Ganga Expressway, one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 29. Developed under the design, build, finance, operate, transfer (DBFOT) toll model, the 594-km-long expressway is being positioned as an “expressway-cum-industrial corridor” to drive regional economic growth.

According to an official statement, the project will function as an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC), with 12 industrial nodes planned along its route. Land has been identified for these nodes across districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. The initiative has already attracted 987 investment proposals, with the state targeting investments worth nearly ₹47,000 crore, creating a new industrial development network across these regions.

The expressway is designed as a six-lane corridor, expandable to eight lanes, with all structures built to accommodate future expansion. It features a 120-metre-wide right-of-way and includes a 3.75-metre-wide service road constructed in a staggered manner to facilitate local connectivity for nearby villages.

Travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj is expected to be reduced significantly, from 12–14 hours to approximately 6–7 hours. The expressway will also serve strategic purposes, becoming the third such highway in the state equipped with an airstrip for emergency use by fighter jets and cargo aircraft. A 3.5-km-long runway has been developed in Shahjahanpur district for this purpose.

For commuters, the estimated toll for cars and light vehicles is set at ₹2.55 per kilometre, translating to around ₹1,515 for the full stretch between Meerut and Prayagraj. The maximum permitted speed will be 120 kmph, with digital tracking systems installed at entry points to monitor vehicle movement throughout the journey.

The Ganga Expressway is expected to significantly boost connectivity, industrialisation, and logistics efficiency across Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing the state’s infrastructure-led growth strategy.
