India’s gherkin exports reached a record value of $307 million in FY26, demonstrating strong global demand for the processed vegetable despite tariff-related challenges in the United States market.
According to industry sources, robust shipments to Europe, North America and other international markets helped India achieve its highest-ever gherkin export earnings during the financial year. Exporters said consistent product quality, competitive pricing and reliable supply chains supported growth even as US tariff measures created pressure on trade margins.
India remains one of the world’s leading suppliers of gherkins, exporting the processed vegetable primarily in pickled form for use in food and retail industries. Major production hubs are located in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where contract farming supports large-scale cultivation for export markets.
Exporters noted that diversification into newer destinations and steady demand from existing buyers helped offset the impact of higher duties in some regions. The industry also benefited from increased consumption of processed and convenience foods across global markets.
Industry stakeholders expect demand for Indian gherkins to remain firm in FY27, supported by expanding food processing exports and improved agricultural productivity. They also highlighted the importance of maintaining quality standards and strengthening trade relationships to sustain export momentum.
