The Ro-Ro vessel Grande Svezia, owned and operated by global Ro-Ro major Grimaldi Group, has set a new milestone in India’s project cargo logistics with a record-scale operation at Mumbai Port.
The vessel successfully berthed at OCT-2 berth, ICTPL, on 3 December 2025, where it discharged an exceptional 2,196 cargo units, comprising rolling freight and spares. The total volume handled exceeded 15,000 metric tonnes and 30,000 cubic metres (CBM) of project cargo, marking one of the largest Ro-Ro project cargo operations ever undertaken at the port.
This was Grande Svezia’s second voyage since her delivery in September 2025, underscoring the vessel’s advanced capability and the growing scale of Ro-Ro trade through Indian ports. The operation was handled by Oasis Shipping Private Limited, a Samsara Group company, which represents the Grimaldi Group in India.
Industry observers note that the operation establishes a new benchmark for efficiency and cargo-handling capability at Mumbai Port, reinforcing its position as a key gateway for large-scale Ro-Ro and project cargo in the country.
Since February 2025, the Naples-based Grimaldi Group has been making regular calls at Mumbai Port as part of its Asia–Europe service, with monthly sailings from Europe to the Persian Gulf via Mumbai. Cargo carried on these routes primarily includes new vehicles, along with other rolling units such as buses, wheel loaders, and trucks.
In addition, Grimaldi has recently introduced westbound calls from Asia, enabling direct connectivity between China and India under its East Asia–Persian Gulf service. The early December call of Grande Svezia at Mumbai forms part of this expanding service network.
Looking ahead, the Grimaldi Group plans to strengthen its footprint in India and increase service frequency, reflecting growing demand for reliable Ro-Ro and project cargo solutions in the region.
In India, the Grimaldi Group is represented by Oasis Shipping Private Limited (a Samsara Group Company).
