Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has delivered an advanced guided missile frigate along with an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) vessel to the Indian Navy, marking a significant boost to the country’s maritime defense capabilities.
The induction of these platforms underscores India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its naval fleet with indigenously built warships equipped with advanced weaponry and surveillance systems. The guided missile frigate is designed for multi-role operations, including air defense, surface warfare, and long-range strike missions.
Meanwhile, the anti-submarine warfare vessel is tailored to detect and neutralize underwater threats, enhancing the Navy’s ability to secure critical sea lanes and coastal waters. Equipped with sophisticated sonar systems and ASW weaponry, the platform is expected to strengthen maritime domain awareness.
GRSE, one of India’s leading defense shipyards, has been playing a key role in the country’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The delivery reflects the shipyard’s growing expertise in building complex naval platforms and meeting stringent operational requirements.
Officials highlighted that the addition of these vessels will improve the Navy’s operational readiness, particularly in the context of evolving maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean Region.
The move also aligns with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, aimed at boosting domestic defense production and reducing reliance on imports. Indigenous warship building programs have gained momentum in recent years, with several major platforms being designed and constructed within the country.
As the Indian Navy continues to expand and upgrade its fleet, the induction of advanced frigates and specialized ASW vessels is expected to play a critical role in enhancing strategic deterrence and safeguarding national maritime interests.
