Hapag-Lloyd has agreed to acquire a 25% stake in APM Terminals Maasvlakte II B.V. from APM Terminals, strengthening the Rotterdam facility’s role as a key European hub for the Gemini Cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and A.P. Moller–Maersk.

The investment will secure long-term automated terminal capacity for Hapag-Lloyd and expand its terminal portfolio under Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), while APM Terminals will retain operational control.

Currently undergoing a major expansion, Maasvlakte II will add 1,000 metres of deep-sea berth, four rail tracks and additional automated equipment. The terminal is expected to reach an annual capacity of 5.4 million TEU, supporting future cargo growth through Rotterdam.
