Hapag-Lloyd will increase its ocean freight rates from North Europe to South Asia, with the new tariffs taking effect from September 1, 2026.

The carrier’s latest price announcement covers shipments from North Europe to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with the revised rates applying to sailings beginning September 1.

Under the announced increase, Hapag-Lloyd will raise its base ocean tariff by $100 per container on the affected services. The new rates will apply to the relevant container types and remain valid until further notice.

The increase comes as carriers continue to adjust freight pricing across the Europe–Indian Subcontinent trade in response to changing market conditions, operating costs and demand.

Hapag-Lloyd’s ocean tariff rates remain subject to additional charges, including bunker, security, terminal handling and applicable peak-season surcharges. Local and contingency charges may also apply depending on the shipment.

The higher rates are expected to increase transportation costs for exporters and importers moving cargo between North European ports and South Asian markets. Shippers will need to factor the revised tariffs into bookings scheduled from September onward.

Hapag-Lloyd has advised customers to check the applicable tariff levels and contact its local customer service teams for shipment-specific details.
