Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) has surpassed 50 million TEUs of containers handled since its establishment, setting a new benchmark in Thailand’s maritime and logistics sector.
Looking ahead, HPT is preparing to launch the next chapter of its development with the completion of the highly automated Terminal D.
Developed under the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) framework, Terminal D will be fully operational in early 2026.
It will support Thailand’s growing economy by boosting capacity and introducing next-generation technologies.
Terminal D will comprise a 1,700-metre berth and a depth of 16 metres at mean sea level, enabling it to accommodate the world’s largest container vessels.
Operations will be powered by advanced digital systems, including the Terminal Operating System (TOS) n-Gen, gate automation, and digitalised workflows.
Electrically powered and remote-controlled quay cranes and yard cranes, together with a number of self-driving, autonomous trucks, will reportedly ensure safer, more sustainable operations.
By the beginning of 2026, Terminal D will be fully equipped with its handling equipment, including 17 remote-controlled quay cranes, 43 remote-controlled rubber-tyred yard cranes , and 10 reach stackers. These investments will increase terminal capacity to approximately 3.5 million TEUs.
HPT will also deploy autonomous trucks equipped with AI machine learning, sensors, and 3D mapping technology. These driverless vehicles operate safely alongside human-driven electric trucks, increasing efficiency and reliability across terminal operations.
Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of Thailand and Southeast Asia, Hutchison Ports, said: “Today, we are proud to celebrate the handling of 50 million TEUs. This milestone is more than just a number; it represents over two decades of dedication, innovation, and strong partnerships.
“It belongs to all of us and reflects the trust placed in us by our customers, the Port Authority of Thailand, government agencies, transport contractors, shippers, and all other stakeholders.
“Their continued support has made this achievement possible, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has stood alongside us on this journey.”
Earlier this September, omoqo, the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) backed digital startup, launched its first commercial development partnership with Cargo-Terminal Lehmann (CTL).
