India has emerged as a major electronics manufacturing hub and is now the world’s sixth-largest exporter of electronics, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday.

Speaking after inaugurating the new manufacturing facility of Jabil at Ranjangaon MIDC in Pune, Vaishnaw said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has transformed into a global electronics manufacturing destination, exporting products to markets across the world.

The minister said India is aiming to become the world’s second-largest electronics exporter in the coming years. He highlighted the country’s growing semiconductor ecosystem, noting that two semiconductor plants are currently under development and the number is expected to increase to four by the end of this year.

To further strengthen the electronics and semiconductor supply chain, Vaishnaw announced plans to begin manufacturing mechanical precision parts in Pune. He also credited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for implementing land reforms that have helped attract major investments to the state.

Addressing the gathering, Fadnavis said Maharashtra continues to lead India’s digital infrastructure growth, with nearly 60 per cent of the country’s data centre capacity located in the state. He reiterated that Maharashtra remains a preferred destination for technology and infrastructure investments.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence in the success of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, stating that it would help create one of India’s largest economic corridors.

Referring to the upcoming Vadhvan Port project, Fadnavis said it is expected to rank among the world’s ten largest ports and will significantly boost transportation, export-import activities and industrial growth in the region.
