India has welcomed Japan’s recent shift in its defence export policy, describing it as a significant step forward in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The policy change, which relaxes certain restrictions on defence equipment exports, is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in defence manufacturing, technology sharing, and regional security collaboration.
Indian officials noted that the move aligns with the growing India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has expanded in recent years across maritime security, defence exercises, and critical technology domains.
The development is also seen as reinforcing Indo-Pacific cooperation, with both nations increasingly focusing on maintaining a free, open, and rules-based regional order amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
Further discussions between the two sides are expected to explore joint development opportunities and enhanced industrial collaboration in the defence sector.
