DP World has introduced a fleet of electric terminal tractors at its container terminal in Jeddah, marking a significant step in the company’s efforts to decarbonise port operations and advance sustainable cargo handling in Saudi Arabia.

The deployment of battery-powered terminal tractors will replace conventional diesel-powered units used for moving containers within the terminal, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, and lower operating costs. The initiative forms part of DP World’s broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions across its global operations.

The electric vehicles are expected to enhance operational performance while reducing noise pollution and improving air quality within the port. The transition also supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals and the Kingdom’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of clean technologies across the transport and logistics sectors.

DP World said the electrification of cargo-handling equipment reflects its continued investment in smart and environmentally responsible port infrastructure. The company is also exploring additional low-carbon technologies and digital solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability across its terminal network.

The move reinforces Jeddah Islamic Port’s position as a leading regional logistics hub while supporting the maritime industry’s transition towards greener port operations and more sustainable global supply chains.
