JSW Infrastructure has received approval to commence operations at Berth No. 7 and its backup area at Netaji Subhash Dock under Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, according to an exchange filing on Friday.

The clearance was granted by the Principal Commissioner of Customs (Port) through a trade circular issued on May 7. Operations at the facility will be handled by JSW Kolkata Container Terminal Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary established for the project.

The berth is part of the company’s container terminal development project at the Kolkata Dock System, awarded by the port authority in July 2025 under the public-private partnership model on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.

JSW Infrastructure had signed a 30-year concession agreement with the port authority in September 2025. The project includes the reconstruction of Berth No. 8 and the mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 at Netaji Subhash Dock.

The company had earlier stated that the project would involve an estimated investment of ₹740 crore and would be completed over a two-year period, while enabling phased commencement of operations during construction.

The Kolkata terminal marks JSW Infrastructure’s entry into expanded container cargo operations on India’s eastern coast. With this addition, the company aims to increase its total container handling capacity to nearly 1 million TEUs, complementing its existing operations at the New Mangalore Container Terminal on the west coast.
